Sadly Adobe announced that it will be closing down it’s popular website platform Business Catalyst on 26th of March 2021 (Important Update: Business Catalyst End-of-Life Extended – The new end of life date is now 26 September 2021).

The content management system that we and thousands of other Digital Marketing Agencies have used for over 12 years to build and host websites. View Adobe’s official statement here.

This has come as a huge shock to the digital industry, affecting over 75,000 websites world wide, including many of our own here at Surge Digital. However it isn’t that much of a surprise, considering the fast paced nature of the digital world.

26 September 2021 is D-Day for all Adobe Business Catalyst users. As of that date, all Business Catalyst sites will be taken down and all data deleted with no come back button. While 2021 seems like a forever away, we’d recommend not getting too comfortable. Website migration can be a timely and stressful process so it’s the best to start thinking about the switch now.

Founded by Australians Bardia Housman and Adam Broadway in 2004, Business Catalyst is an all-in-one creation and management solution for business websites. Offering a wide range of benefits to its users, Business Catalyst includes built-in customer service, marketing and sales features such as eCommerce and Email tools. Here at Surge Digital, we’re rather fond of Business Catalyst. Our agency used the platform and loved it too.

Today the online marketplace is changing fast, with the demands of more advanced customisation, mobile responsiveness and the evolution of the DIY website environment.

Even though disappointing, we see this as an opportunity for users to migrate to more advanced, next generation website technologies.

This presents a major opportunity to the countless businesses with sites currently hosted on Adobe Business Catalyst. It’s your chance to,

  • Take stock of your current digital ecosystem
  • Evaluate how well your site is helping you reach your overall marketing, revenue or customer service goals
  • Identify inefficiencies across your current systems and processes

Your resilience is being pushed. Plan for the next phase of growth and innovation in your business and push back.

Since being delivered the news, the Surge Digital team have been working though the sites of our clients currently using Adobe Business Catalyst.

We have poured through pages of technical specifications for new, cutting edge and established alternative platforms. We’ve weighed these up against the other platforms our team are currently rolling out to mid-market and fast growing businesses. And we’ve started the processes of, one-by-one, matching these to our existing Adobe Business Catalyst client businesses.

It’s critical that you choose the right replacement platform for your future needs. There have been huge advances in easy to use drag and drop website editing, marketing automation, website personalisation, feature rich but affordable eCommerce solutions and far more advanced platforms with unlimited customisation.

But this is just the start. Let’s work together to find an option that will help your business grow today, and tomorrow.
